Same symbol. Completely new voice. Building a brand identity for activism meets technology.

Cage Undefined came with one clear instruction: keep the logo symbol. Everything else was open. The challenge was to take an existing mark and build an entirely new identity around it, one that could hold two very different worlds together. On one side, the urgency and emotion of animal liberation activism. On the other, the credibility and precision of a tech-driven organisation. The brief was to make both feel like they belonged in the same brand.

Problem

Problem

The existing identity felt generic, nothing about it communicated the boldness of the mission or the sophistication of the technology behind it. For a collective trying to challenge exploitation and build a global movement, looking like a basic NGO wasn't just a visual problem. It was a credibility problem. The brand needed to feel as serious and ambitious as the work it was built to support.

Solution

Solution

Working within the constraint of the existing logo symbol, I rebuilt the entire visual system from scratch, colour palette, typography, gradients, patterns, and application across digital platforms, campaigns, merchandise, and web. The colour direction was the central strategic decision: deep black for conviction, electric teal for technology and forward movement, vivid orange for urgency and energy, electric purple for transformation. Together they create a palette that feels neither like a typical NGO nor a typical tech brand, deliberately. The fluid gradients became the emotional core of the system, representing the shift from confinement to freedom.

Concept

Concept

The constraint of keeping the symbol became the creative anchor. Rather than fighting it, I used it, building a visual language that makes the symbol feel inevitable, like it was always meant to sit inside this identity. The gradients do the narrative work: they move, they shift, they don't stay still. That's intentional. A brand built around liberation shouldn't feel fixed. The system is designed to scale across digital campaigns, merchandise, posters, and web, giving a small but ambitious collective the visual infrastructure to punch well above its weight.

Outcome

Outcome

The new identity has been adopted by the collective and is currently being rolled out across their website and digital platforms. The client described the work as exceptional, noting it demonstrated a strong understanding of design principles and resonated directly with the organisation's mission.
